Good Horn

I would have to say this is a very good horn. It is very light weight and sounds wonderfull in an ensemble or jazz forum but while playing with a big group it does'nt have enough projection for a lead trumpet. The valves work smoothly once oiled or after being work up but when sitting for a while they are a bit sluggish. Some of the valve caps do not screw on straight but if you work it a couple of times it will eventualy screw on. I wish there was a way to lock the 3rd valve slide for it tends to slide out easily. Since the bore size is small at the 2nd valve slide it tends to collect water at that point. I like the water keys and are probably the best made. I love the finish and it is a beautiful looking horn. The double case is very small and light weight and easy to carry but the quality is not that good and the fibers from the cushoning seem to get into the mouthpiece. Over all I am very pleased with this horn and am glad I bought it.

Astonishing Horn

This horn beats the crap out of all others. Seriously, before this trumpet came into my life, my range was only up to about a G (Above high C). After I got this horn, I was able to squeak out a D. I use two different mouthpieces with this trumpet - The Bobby Shew lead which is a decent mouthpiece. Perfect for low-high songs. The other is the Roger Ingram lead (Good low- Crazy high). The Shew trumpet is a Trumpet Screaming heaven.

The Perfect Trumpet

I bought the 8310Z a few years ago in silver plating, and I have loved playing every note on it. It's perfectly balanced with smooth operation. The light weight and the little resistance of the horn make transitioning from a C below the staff to a C above the staff as easy as moving from one note to the next note up. Yamaha hit the nail straight on the head while handcrafting this fine trumpet. I will probably never buy a trumpet again, thanks to this Yamaha Z horn.

Amazing Horn

I am in the 10th grade and got this horn last year because it was time to move to a pro one. At first I was sceptical as to buying a Yamaha because I was not aware that they made such good products. Well one of the guys on my line had it and I played it and was amazed at how much it improved my tone quality. I Personally use a Vincent Bach 3C for marching and Concert and a Bobby Shew Lead for Jazz. I think if you are ready to move to a pro maodel then definetly but this horn. It is worth every single cent believe me. Very Impressive Mr. Shew.

Super happy with this horn. I've only had it for a couple days, and right out of the box it was just great. It looks great. I got the lacquered model. It sounds great. I've been an amateur cornet player since childhood--many decades ago. And I was looking for a trumpet, but was hoping to have it on the "mellow" sounding side. To me this horn is just that. And yet it is a very BIG sound. It is much more of a powerhouse--if I want it to be. But it plays very soft and very mellow if I wish it to. I'm less chippy with it than with my cornet. And its easier--with less effort to hit notes in the higher range. My lip holds up a little longer, because I don't have to make quite as much effort. It came with a nice double horn case and the "Jazz" mouthpiece. I ordered an additional mouthpiece-the "Lead" model.
